If your cap has too low a spring pressure, your cap will push the fluid out prematurely and fill up the overflow. When were all driving our cars spiritedly this rapid rise in pressure is common and your stock cap is not built for this. A higher radiator cap pressure effectively raises the boiling temperature of the coolant, providing extra safety margin and preventing air pocket cavitation at the water pump.
